Services and Fees

Money is never easy to talk about. However, disputes occur when terms and conditions are not discussed prior to the assignment. This information should clarify all fees and billing methods up front, to ensure mutual understanding and prevent problems later on.

We prefer flat rates, and that’s why most of our fees are listed by project, and not by hour. Of course, the first visit/consultation is free. Subsequent calls should be part of a billable assignment, unless both parties agree otherwise. Also, nonprofit organizations receive a 25 percent discount. Fees include cost of design/desktop publication where indicated.

Terms

As all jobs are different, quotes will be made after consultation.

The writing fee for new clients is payable 50 percent in advance, with the balance due and payable upon completion and delivery of final approved copy. All other clients: one-third payable up front, one-third after completion of the first draft, with the balance due and payable upon completion of final, approved copy.

Editing fees are payable in full, in advance. Two copy revisions are included in the base fee, if assigned within 30 days of your receipt of copy and are not based on a change in the assignment made after copy is submitted. Once revisions have been returned, we will turn around the subsequent draft within three days or less.

 L. A. Creative absorbs the cost of local phone calls, photocopies, postage and other incidental expenses.

Payment is due net 30 days upon receipt of invoice.

FAQs

Why such a wide range in fees? Higher rates apply when extensive research and/or writing is involved.

Why should I pay anything up front?  Getting money up front is standard in this business, though mostly with new clients and for larger jobs. On future jobs, if they’re small (less than $500), we would  be happy to bill at project’s end.

On what do you base your fees? Our status;  the market value of our services; competitors, and what they are charging.

How much should I expect to spend on anyone's freelance or contract work? It can vary, depending on the levels of expertise. However, here is a widely recognized source of reliable information: http://www.writersmarket.com/content/howmuch4.asp.
